I grew up in southern Minnesota and received a BA in studio art from Carleton College in 2000. Post-graduation, I moved to Minneapolis, working for architecture firms for a few years, and splitting my time more recently between working as a builder for Fenton Home Services and doing sculpture, painting, and some commission work out of my studio in the California Building in Northeast Minneapolis.

I moved to Northern California in the fall of 2009 to begin an MFA program in art at the University of California, Davis.
